Week 4 - YouTube - Watch & Share

YouTube - Watch & Share

During this seminar YouTube was discussed immensely. The case study entailed most of the information about YouTube that is feasible online. To me this particular topic was not as interesting, since I do not really have any particular interest in YouTube.
After reading the case study we did have to answer couple of questions, I liked the last question the most which was in regard to the dangers that could arise for it if all content is user-generated – to me this question was very stimulating since I believe it is a good question for a discussion. This is because I see both drawbacks and benefits of user-generated content. But in order to avoid legal and ethical issues I believe that YouTube is doing the right thing by monitoring the content that is uploaded.

Teamwork
As I mentioned in my previous blog, my team has decided to talk about a company called HR Education LTD since one of our teammates' father is the division director for that company in UK. This means that we can have easier and more unbiased access to the information that we will need for our presentation.
I personally have reservations toward two of my teammates. However I am happy to be working with Dzani and Mahnoor.
I am a perfectionist and lately I have been quite tired due to the amount of workload and time constraints since I have multiple jobs alongside university. I hope I can finish this presentation without it being negatively affected by my work and lack of sleep.
In general I have a good feeling about this project.

Week 3 - Susie's Beauty Products

Susie's Beauty Products
In today's seminar when the exercise was introduced initially I was excited since I love creating spreadsheets. I was a little bit late to the class, when I arrived everyone was quite nearly done with the exercise, but once I got all my numbers down, using and creating calculations was easy sailing for me since I had already done this in my college. I was even able to help some of my colleagues with their work while I was waiting for everyone to catch up so our seminar teacher could explain and elaborate the answers.

Lecture
This week's lecture was about Managing IS infrastructure and Services. I cannot deny I am having tough time keeping up with the jargon and the scale of measure. However ti did find it interesting to know how IPs work and the computer types in the world today. All that information (the ones i could keep up with) kind of blew my mind and fascinated me.

Teamwork - TRIMD
I was asked to join a team of 3 for our MIS group presentation, we all gathered information in order to see what was happening and what we were supposed to do, this all was happening during the seminar time. In my group we already have come up with all the possible questions we can ask our company - HR Education LTD.

Week 2 - Excel Cell Referencing (Relative vs. Absolute)

Excel Cell Referencing  (Relative vs. Absolute)

During this seminar we learnt about Relative v Absolute Cell referencing.
We did start out with remembering  few simple calculations using excel in order to catch everyone up to the same level of excel literacy.
I have a feeling I might struggle with the "techy" side of this module.

Lecture
As far as lectures go, I find it difficult to get myself into the lecture hall at 9 am, since I have troubles sleeping and I have to take sleeping medications in order to sleep, which actually makes it next to impossible to hear my alarms and get up on time.
However I was able to keep up with my lecture this week. We were being told about descriptive and reflective writing, what differences are and how to write them as well as which we should use for our blogs.

Week 1 - How to Analyse a Business Case

Reflection of Management & Information Syatems

How to Analyse a Business Case

There are many steps to analysing a business case:
  • To identify the problems -  To identify the problems simply means to understand what the case study says and what seems to be an issue that could potentially be corrected.
  • Analyse the key issues - This means to look at the issues that were found in the case study and choosing the most pressing/relevant/important issues that need to be addressed. It also means to dissect the issues and try to understand as many aspects of it as possible.
  • Create solutions - once the issued are analysed it is expected to create a number of solutions to the issues in order to give the business an option of what path they might want to choose in order to solve the issues.
  • Analyse solutions by finding advantages and disadvantages - once the solutions are created they also have to be analysed and given the list of advantages and disadvantages of each solution. This happens so that the business is more or less fully aware of potential drawbacks to any of the solutions they might choose to undertake.
  • Identify the best solution - After analysing the possible solutions, it is expected to offer the best possible solution for the business from the case analyst's point of view. Of course the client will not have to comply to this solution however it is advised that they follow this final solution.
  • Write a case analysis report - after all of the above, an analytical summary should be written which states what the issue was, what suggestions were made, what was the ultimate suggestion and what should be expected in case the advised solution is actually used.
We were also introduced to blogger.com and started our entries.
